What is Iota tangle?

The IOTA Tangle is an innovative type of distributed ledger technology (DLT) that is specifically designed for the Internet of Things (IoT) environment. The IOTA technology is based on a new type of DLT, not the traditional blockchain model. It was created by the IOTA Foundation, a non-profit foundation incorporated and registered in Germany.

How does Iota work?

IOTA’s consensus mechanism used to be based on a centralized coordinator who made sure that no one is misbehaving in the ecosystem. The idea was to have honest nodes picking up transactions that are yet to be validated and attacking them to the Tangle. IOTA has since decentralized its co-ordinator with the Coordicide protocol.

What is the tangle and how does it work?

The Tangle is a data structure that is replicated across a network of computers (also called 'nodes') that contains all the information necessary to track token ownership. It forms a directed acyclic graph of blocks (a block-DAG), where each newer block is attached to multiple older ones.
